I've had a lot of problems with my desktop pc and did not get any help from AT&T, my internet service provider as they avoid giving any trouble shooting tips for the desktop issues. I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 98 and other programs viz. MS Internet Explorer 6.0, Mcafee Virus scan on line and Firewall. My screen resolution is 640x480 and cannot be changed to 800x600 even after going to display, screen area and trying to move the slider to increase the screen area. It just does not move! Could someone give me some tips to resolve the sound / display problems.

You have to reinstall the drivers for your video and sound cards.

Go to control panel and delete your monitor, video card. and sound. Reboot and Windows will install the drivers. Asuming PnP devices.

Unfortunately, there are no video and sound drivers for Windows to install after doing a format and a clean install, except for the standard VGA drivers which support only a 640x480 resolution and 16 colors.
In order to get the monitor to display a higher resolution and greater color depth, and for the system to have sound, the specific video and sound card drivers have to be manually installed.
