Hi
My laptop has 2000 pro running on it. I was deleting old files for mp3 and cd burning type things and I think I accidentally deleted a file needed for sound in the operating system. I now have no speaker icon on my toolbar and no sound whatsoever.

When I go to control panel/sound properties/audio everything is greyed out. Soundplayback option preferred device says "No Playback Devicees and is greyed out. The same is true for Sound Recording preferred device as well as MIDI Music Playback preferred device.

How can I find out what my laptop sound source is and get the proper driver reinstalled for it.

If it's any help, my laptop is a Dell Latitude D610

Thanks

A few thoughts:

1) Is the sound card enabled and running without problems in Device manager (right click My Computer -> Manage -> Device Manager -> Sound, Video and Game Controllers).

2) If you have the Dell support CD to hand, put that in; if not, use to locate the appropriate sound drivers by entering your laptop's service tag number into the web site.
You can then download and install them.

John
