Hello All;
I hope there is someone out there who can help. I do not have any sound alert for new message arrival in O.E. 6. I have searched this site and found only 2 possible solutions, neither of which worked. I searched Microsoft's web site, found a possible solution, tried it, and it didn't work. Short of uninstalling, which I really don't want to do, I'm stuck. I've checked Control Panel>Sounds>New Mail Notification. It's set. The correct file is there, and it plays. I've edited the registry to be sure the correct path is present. I've set O.E. to notify on new mail arrival. The .wav file type is associated with Music Match Jukebox, so I launched it, just to check, and sent mail to myself. Still didn't work. Oh, yes, the sound card and speakers work perfectly. I get alerts in Yahoo IM, and AOL IM. Even my printer talks to me. There just don't seem to be any sounds for O.E., or any other Windows events either, come to think of it. I tried setting a sound to Recycle bin, just as a test. I get a very weak 'beep', but no .wav file. I assume that something turned Windows System Sounds off, but I have no clue what did it, or how to fix it. What am I missing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It might not help, but a run with SFC certainly won't hurt.

smah; Thanks for the response. I have a copy of 'System File Checker' on the machine when it was running Win 98SE. I now have Win2KPro, and SFC won't run, at least this version won't. Is there a version of SFC for Win2KPro? If so, I'll try it.

Thanks again, T.
