After I upgraded to Windows98 - 2nd edition from Win95 I no longer hear my modem. Use to hear the dialtone and dialing sequence. I know speakers are ok as other sounds are coming through. Already checked the volume on the modem through the control panel????

When you installed win98 did a different driver get installed for the modem. If so then the new driver may not be capable of giving you sound through the speakers for the modem. If thats what happened then obtain the old driver and use that one. that is the only thing i can think of.

Thanks ladin. Turns out I started playing around with my NEC audio mixer (apparently controls the modem sound?). Turned off the mute, didn't do anything, then went into advance features and turned off the mic monitoring. Seems to have rectified the problem, I can't explain???
