NO SMTP TRAFFIC BETWEEN HUB TRANSPORT AND EDGE TRANSPORT SERVERS

Operating systems: Windows 2008 R2
Exchange: Exchange 2007 Standard
1) Client Access and Hub transport installed on one server
2) Edge transport installed on another server (no firewall installed)
3) DNS on Hub transport updated with IP and FQDN of Edge server
4) "Hosts" file on BOTH Hub and Edge updated with IP and FQDN of Edge and Hub transport (no DNS on Edge transport)
5) AD LDS installed on Edge transport
6) *.xml file copied from EDGE TO HUB.
7) Forced synchronisation failed (cannot find AD LDS)
8) Windows firewall set to allow SMTP traffic port 25
9) Telnet client from Hub to Edge and Edge to Hub fails.

I am missing something.

No firewall installed else i was considering configuring configuring Hub transport to forward external mails. Please help.

Hub transport cannot find AD LDS

SMTP / Telnet between Hub trasport and Edge transport fails.

Please help. Above required to point externally hosted emails to the internal exchange server above.
All details in the relevant post above are constant.
