This issue is happening on an existing system...

Everything was working this morning...

One of my applications crashed about 2 hours ago...

Apparently, this one box has lost it's "shell"...

When I attempt to login as any regular user, or su to any regular user ID, I get one of the following errors:

No shell - OR -
su: No shell

I already opened a ticket with HP, but haven't heard back from them yet...

The filesystems are all mounted...

The shells are there, and they are accessible...

The /etc/passwd file exists and all entries look good...

Syslog doesn't show anything...

The application logs just show the application coming down, but nothing more...

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Did you check /etc/shells? If there is not an entry in /etc/shells for the login, it will not work properly.

Yes, I checked /etc/shells...

Thanks...

It turns out that I changed permissions on the "/" directory, by mistake, when I really wanted to change permissions on the "/root" directory...

"/" should have permissions of 755, while "/root" can be made more secure...

First day with my new fingers...

Thanks for responding though...
