No (SCSI) CDROM found under w2k

i am upgrading a fairly old hardware system from NT4S to W2KAS. Remaining apparent issues are no `network neighborhood' (ie no LAN, though i do have WAN (internet) access) and a failure of the system to find the scsi cdrom.

The Yamaha 4416 is attached, as the only device (LUN 3), on an adaptec 2940U/UW controller.

Initially the adaptec IRQ conflicted with the 3Com 3C90B NIC. That is resolved.

The HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) type is `Standard PC'. Ie none of the inappropriate ACPI `optimisations' (though system shutdown still complains it is not getting proper signaling).

The event log shows prolonged streams of error messages:

A pending interrupt was detected on device \Device\Scsi\aic78xx1 during a timeout operation. A large number of these warnings may indicate that the system is not correctly receiving or processing interrupts from the device.

Both the NIC and Scsi controllers have had their BIOS' upgraded...

Device manager shows two "Unknown Device"s on IRQ 3 and an "Unsupported Device" not using an IRQ. Probably? Serial and or parallel ... have not gotten to these lower priority issues yet.

The MB is a Tyan Trinity AMD

During the initial update install, i did have to waste the driver NEROCDNT.SYS... Then i removed the old Nero installation and reinstalled the latest Nero 6.0028. (Nero also cannot find the drive). NEROCDNT is not in the drivers directory -- and i don't know what Nero's new drivers would be called, but there is nothing with the letters n-e-r-o in the drivers directory.
