I have installed linux slackware on my drive. I can boot to the darkstar promt. But, when i type in startx i get the message No screens no usable conf. I looked on wiki.X.org and it said somethin about depth and range. I'm not sure what to do. Do i have to change something in the xorg.conf file. If anyone knows how to set this up. Please Help.

It sounds like you have either (i) no X configuration, or (ii) an X configuration that doesn't function with your hardware.

Recommend that you reconfigure. Don't know how that's done in Slackware.

Thanks I used xorgconfig to configure it. I also set the depth to 8. which, now everthing is superinposed, very large. I'm not sure how to change it. I fooled around with it a little bit by changing the depth to 1 and all i got was a black and white screen when i ran startx. If anyone knows of the solution it would be nice.
Thanks,

You might have problems with your H & V sync. Look up these 2 lines HorizSync & VertRefresh under the Monitor section to see if it matches with that of your monitor. Usually a label at the back of your monitor should indicate the proper values.

I've also had some (rare) cases where the monitor only shows properly when set to 16bit depth and above.
