Hi,

I have the following issue. Since the day before few of my extensions are reported to have no ringer tone. However, you can call other stations from this particular extensions. I have tried a few things but not working, even a system reset had no effect. For the first 3 cases I put the extensions on spare LENs and problem solved. But two more extensions were reported this morning and I have run out of spare LENs.

I know this is a system issue and not handsets. Is it time to change the cards? or is there anything I can do to bring back the ringing tone for these extensions? By the way, we have IPS2000 with analogue handsets and I am able to use MATworx.

Thanks for your help.

The first 3 extensions were from the same PIM. If the RGU of this PIM is faulty how do I confirm?

Thanks.

If only a couple of stations have lost ringing, then it can't be the ring generator as that is common to each pim (in the PSU IIRC) swap cards and see if the fault follows the card, if not you are left with the backplane or the CPU. You could try the PSU but I doubt it would be that if it is only a couple of them!

Don't forget to try a system reset. It sometimes clears strange problems.

The RGU leads should be a white and black pair of wires extended to a connector to the back plane of the PIM. Set your meter to ACV. Push the test leads into the back of the connector. You should see around 90VAC.

I do not see any black and white pair of wires but blue white and grey.. I have just found out that it is the whole PIM that is affected, all 50 extensions. We are planning to bring in the contractor for assessment and possible replacement of the PSU.
By the way, what would have caused this fault? power issues?..
Thanks for your help.

I agree common fault - if whole pim is affected , you need a new PSU

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

Thanks everyone. It is a faulty PSU. We have ordered a new one and still waiting. Had to get it from overseas though. I have also noticed that there is a sound coming from the back plane of the faulty PIM - sounds like a whirling PC fan . This is uncommon. Should I disconnect this particular PIM?

Many thanks.

Did you know the IVS2 PSU is identical as is the backplane and they are probably more readily available.

Thanks ozzieGeorge for the tip.I'll check it up. Any re-sellers in Aussie you recommend?

There are two second hand dealers that immediately spring to mind, Westcoast Phones based in Morley WA (a suburb of Perth) and Silver Communications who I think are based in Melbourne. One that I am not as certain about as they are relative newcomers is The Telecom Shop but I am not sure where they are based (they are on line as are westcoast and silver).

Whereabouts are you based?

Port Moresby-PNG. We do order from Silver Communications(handsets)and like their service.Pretty cheap compared to the prices here! I will have a look at the other companies.

Thanks OzzieGeorge.

The new PSU we ordered arrived and I installed it this afternoon. And it is working great! All the ringing tones are back.
Thanks a million everyone for your help. Wouldn't do it without your tips.
