woundering if someone could help me out here. for some reason my win 2000 server will not restart it just hangs after the "saving your settings" and "restarting you computer" i tried to shut down all running programs..ie. zone alarm,anti-virus, back up software before restarting and it doesnt do any good at all. then if i hit the reset button i have toreinstall z.alarm every time to get it to restart.. any ideas??? thanks for any help on this one.

The last time I saw this happen was with a 3rd party driver. Is there a modem installed on this server? If so, try uninstalling the driver for that. I've seen servers hang on theses before and it turned out to be the fax monitor (that wasn't even being used!)

nope no modem....but thanks for the tip anyway. tried to do a shut down also and the same thing happens????

Have you tried booting into safe mode and then shutting down. If it does shut down in safe mode then at least you will know what isn't causing it.

Not much help i'm affraid but i had the same problem with a SBS 2000 server. It needed a rebuild for other reasons and that sorted it.

Bit excessive for your problem though.

thanks to the both of you...i was trying to avoid having to reinstall. if i wait long enough and hit the reset button all my settings are saved i guess it is just more of a pain then anything elese...thanks again guess i will have to live with it until the next time windows crashes...which probably wont be to far off...
