after installing backup exec, my mcaffee task manager will not start and I can not restart, shutdown or log off of my 2k server from the Start menu OR CTRL/ALT/DEL. any ideas?

More info.. I am thinking that the processes are running will not allow me to shutdown unless I manually stop them. Why? as usual the big question.

What I really want to know is: Will this version cut it and what is the most appropriate update for version 8.5? Looks like 8.6 is buggy? So far, the backups seem to be working great, just this odd 2K server behaviour now on restart/shutdown.

Additional info I know:
2K server updates were done after BE installation on sp 3 by going to the Scanning site for microsoft to detect. There was one driver update in my list that I have not installed.

"Backup Exec, there must be a better option" has info that sounds like it applies to this question.

My opinion is that Backup Exec 8.6 build 3878 is reliable. (I havent used ver 9.0 enough ...yet ;)

As for your problem - sorry cant say that I have encountered it before.

Cheers

thank you Rols,
I will look into that. Find veritas admin manual good but site doesn't offer up any tech info to show symptoms and bugs..frustrating. I was trying to find another option to the 2k backup util that was working almost all of the time, hahah.
