No "Edit" Dropdown in List - Column Deleted

I believe one of my users deleted one of the primary columns of a Sharepoint list. It happened to be the column that was used to allow editing of a list item outside of datasheet view. In other words, when NOT in datasheet view, there is no column that when hovered over, displays an edit dropdown menu.

Is there a way to enable this feature for another column or are we now stuck with editing in datasheet view?

You cannot delete the column that allows for the drop down for the edit, becasue its the file name and is required by sharepoint. Sounds like they removed the drop down with the views section. Or changed the datatype for the name. I would first check the views.
