I have a problem where when I click on print preview or print nothing happens when trying to work with a table. I created the Database and have power user rights. If I log in as an administrator it works fine. I did not create the database as administrator so I am the owner of it. I have tried repairing the installation and have also re-installed Access. I am using Access 2003. Any ideas.

Does the alternate user have the necessary FILE permissions to the database file to read and if necessary modify the table?

I created the database. There is no alternate user. It was created logged in as myself, with Power User rights. I cannot do print preview or print on any database I open, including ones I created. If I log out and log in as an administrator, I can use the print preview and print. No one else seems to have any problems with this and they seem to have the same user rights as myself. It seems like this is an XP issue because of it working under the administrator account, but I'm not sure.

When logged as "Power User" in your XP box have you the same default printer as when logged as "Administrator" ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

The default printers were not the same, but this did not fix the problem. Any other suggestions. The print preview and print options are visible and I can click on them, but nothing happens. It acts like it is going to do something, but doesn't.

I should also mention that I have no problems in Word or Excel using Print Preview or Print. The problem is only in Access.

When you log on as 'administrator' do you mean Windows or the database? If you mean windows, check the permissions to the file.

If not, still check and see if it is the same printer in both profiles.

Also try a compact/repair.

I found the problem. It was with the security settings for my default printer. I changed those and it is working now. I still don't understand why I was able to do print preview and print in other applications, but not Access. Not sure why this fixed the problem.

Access uses the print driver to help render the report. If it doesn't have use of a printer it won't work at all.

Don't the other programs go through the same process. I am just tyring to understand why the other programs all worked and Access didn't.
