Hi, a month ago I was getting high temp readings on my XP2000, SIS Sandra was telling me I was running too hot.

I cleaned the system with air and put it all back together, still high temps. I went out and purchased an Athlon 3200 heatsink and cooler(with factory installed thermal pad). Still high temps even with the case sides off.

I did not want to burn out the chip, so I run it at 1267mhz. Chip temp and sys temp dropped to normal, so thought system would be fine until after Christmas.

A few days later turned on the PC and no post, just drive lights and no beeps. Thinking the problem could be the PSU (because of the fan upgrade and what I was told by a techy), I went and purchased a new 400W PSU.

Still no beeps, fitted a replacement MOBO (using thermal grease), this seemed to work until the system was rebuilt then MOBO bleeped 9 times once, I pressed F1 for defaults. Screen went black, then back to no beeps.

I am really careful about grounding etc, so I dont think it is a static problem recurring.

Memory is fine as it works on the PC I am posting on. CPU looks in good condition.

Surely I cannot have two faulty MOBO's?

Cannot really afford to run out and buy a new PC this side of Christmas so suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes, both MOBO's. But only AFTER they had whacked out.

Sounds like the CPU burned out. Does the system you're posting have a compatable CPU?

CPU must compatible, I have had the system since 2002 and I replaced the MOBO with the same model.

I will try and get hold of another AMD CPU and try that.

Think it is going to be one of those mysterious problems that is going to cost some to fix. Thanks for the input.
