I have a Linux on my PC, all was fine,.... but i have now a probleme:
I can't log in my PC, i have :
Hostest login :

when i log with a username (root or others) i have not the line :
password :

the login : is propmted again !!!

so i can't log to my PC with terminal and with telnet

I suppose i must make my HD slave with another linux machine and see some files ?? (what files !!!)

Please i am lost help me

Hi,

You have to boot the system in single-user (maintenance) mode and try to fix the problem. Boot or reboot your computer. If get a graphical lilo prompt exit that with [Ctrl]-[X] so that you get the 'boot:' prompt. Then type linux 1' or 'linux single' as arguments and press enter :

boot: linux 1

The system will stop at run-level one and you will be root (no password needed!) with a prompt like this :

bash#

You then need to fix the problem. It may be PAM related in some way so look at the file /etc/pam.d/login and maybe comment a few of the restrictions out. You could also try mounting your CD or otherwise getting hold of the PAM rpm and reinstalling that. The pam config looks something like this :

auth required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth
auth required /lib/security/pam_nologin.so
account required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth
password required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth

session optional /lib/security/pam_console.so

To reboot from run-level 1 do 'init 6'
