Win 98se.Outlook express was missing from my pc so I went to add/remove programs-checked outlook express-clicked apply and let it extract it from my cd.however no icon appeared om my desktop.found an exe for it in programs ,but it told me to re-install.Any ideas please?

Try getting hold of IE5 or 5.5 off a free ISP CD and run Ie5setup.exe from that CD. choose custom install and make sure outlook express is checked.

Go to explorer. And on the C drive under Program Files Ensure that there is an Outlook Express folder. If so go to the folder and find the file msimn.exe, this is Outlook Express. Then Put a copy of it on your desktop. I have run into the same situation a while ago, my windows install just never added the icon to the desktop or taskbar.
Hope this helps

Thanks Guys--got outlook xpress--but now it says c`ant load address book--re install.Tried that but still no address book and still wants me to re-install.Need more help if possible.Bilko

try going to windows update and downloading outlook express 5.

I've had this before.
Things to do:
1. search your hard drive for a *.wab file.
2. The one it finds should be MSNUser.wab rename this to MSNUser.sus
3. Run Outlook Express up and then close it down.
4. Look for *.wab files again and it should find one that is named something like your email user name. i.e bilko.wab.
5. Rename this file to bilko.new and then rename your *.sus file to be the name of the the recently found one I.E. bilko.wab.
I'm not making much sense am I?
Basically do the first two steps and then rename the *.sus file to the exact name the new filename is after opening Outlook Express. So your old *.wab file has the same name and location of the newly recreated *.wab file which has been renamed to *.new to allow you to rename the old one to same filename.
come back if you don't get it and I'll try and think of another way to describe what to do!

Hi Klae.thanx for the reply.Haven`t tried it yet ,but tried the solution given at microsoft. Q191946.this involves editing the registry and removing the following keys
HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Software\microsoft\Outlook Express
HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\WAB
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WAB
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\{7790769C-0471-11d2-AF11-00C04FA35D02
Reinstall Outlook Xpress.
Been there -done it but address book still fails to load.
More explicit instructions would be appreciated.
