Here's the scenario but most of it is irrelevant....

Exchange 2007 Client Access cluster (2 servers) on W2K3. Need to install Sophos anti-virus on them. Successful on one, fails on the other. The E2K7 is irrelevant but guaranteed someone will ask for more detail so I've supplied it. Error pointed to sharing and found that File & Print Sharing was not installed on the E2K7 server so Sophos server could not contact \\E2K7\C$, enabled that but still no luck. Sophos KBs say to try, from E2K7, to access \\SOPHOS\C$ but this gives the error "no network provider accepted the given network path" and so does just \\SOPHOS\ which should be able to see numerous shares.

I did have this on another machine, WinXP I think, and found that I needed to disabled Windows Firewall (even though Sophos ports are open) to get it to work. Firewall is not running on E2K7 server so that's not the issue.

I can get to \\E2K7\C$ from WinXP and Sophos server but cannot get to any share from the E2K7 server.

Any ideas?

Found it. For some stupid reason "Client for Microsoft Networks" on the NIC was not enabled!! Turning that on fixed it immediately.
