no network on sco 5.0 3

Hi,

I have a sco box that until two weeks ago was working fine. Now, I can ping from another box and it returns the packets. However from the machine I cannot ping, telnet or anything. I did stop/start inetd...
any ideas.
I try to ping by ip, address, and even local host and ip of the machgine.
when pinging just hangs there with no answer.

Hi Antonio!
Try to view you're network configuration using
scoadmin Network Configuration Manager (or type only scoadmin and select Networks -> Network Configuration Manager). Tipically there are 2 network configs: one is the loopback drv, and the 2nd is you're network adapter. Verify the config of you're network adpt.

inetd will have nothing to do with outgoing requests, it just launches appropriate programs for incoming requests.
ping is responded to at a lower level.
check your netconfig first as Francesco suggests then check /etc/resolv.conf adn /etc/hosts for any corruption.
you should also check netstat -nr for any strange routes.

I did check network config (loopback and lan), resolv.conf hosts and output from netstat -nr and all seems to be ok. thank you

Have you just tried to reboot the server ?
Sometimes you may encounter streams issues, take a look at:
netstat -m
and check the fail column.
