I have a project with about 10 mpeg video clips that run great in the .dir file in director and also in the projector .exe file as long as I run it from the machine I created it on. It even works from the CD on that machine. As soon as I try it on another machine, No video plays. I do not get "Where is..." request for the file like it can't find the path, it just doesn't run. I have checked and double checked the paths and re-imported the clips into the movie with the same result. Can someone please help!!!

In importing the mpeg clips did you do standard import or link to external file import? I use link to external file with .mov's then include the .movs on the cd also. That way it's not looking for a path, just a file. How do you get .mpgs to import to Director 8? So far I've only been able to use .avi's or .mov's. (I'm a newbie)
Hope it helps -

I did it both ways. They seem to work fine until I try to move the whole thing to another computer (either on CD or just moving the whole directory over the network.) Since my post I have converted the mpegs to .mov quicktime files and this seems to have worked, but I still don't know why the mpegs will only work on the machine that I'm creating on. The weird thing is it works this way in both Director 7 and 8. Thanks for your response.

That is strange. How do you import .mpg's into Director? When I try to it asks for it to be .avi or .movs only, and it doesn't play the clip.

actually I let it import as quicktime but it seems to preserve the mpeg format and extentions. It identifies it as a quicktime file in the cast but if you look at cast properties its is still an .mpg file and seems to function fine til I move it off that computer. Maybe the projector is looking for an .mov extention... hmmm. But in any case the clip plays fine (even from the projector) on the machine I created it on. Thanks again for your response!

Hi:

To import MPEG into Dir you need to use Xtras, I Think, either Direct Media Xtra or OnStage SE Extra or CD Extra. I tried other ways but it is not reliable, especially if it is a serious project
