Bought a used Compaq DL380 G2 server and am doing a fresh install of W2K Server. At completion I have a frozen mouse pointer in the center of the display and the device manager has a yellow exclamation point and the infamous words "This device cannot start (Code 10)". Subsequent re-installs produce the same result yet putting a mouse in the USB port works just fine and makes the error for the PS2 mouse disappear. However, removing the USB mouse also removes the PS2 mouse. Any ideas? Bad PS2 port? W2K problem?

It's not a Bad PS2 port or W2K problem it's the compatibility to your mouse and it's driver, try other mouses, you'll find one who is suitable.

This is a tough guess. Bad hardware can produce the result of the driver not starting as well as a driver that isn't compatible with the mouse. There are things you can do to find out. Boot with a DOS disk that has a dos mouse driver and see if the mouse works. The compaq servers typically come with a configuration CD that is bootable. That CD will also have a mouse driver. If neither of those will operate the mouse, then you probably have a bad mouse or bad sys bd mouse port. Try another mouse that you know works elsewhere, and prefereably a generic ps2 mouse. One other thing... do not unplug the mouse while the computer is operating; I've seen computers freeze when a mouse was plugged back in. Only way to fix the freeze was to reboot.
