We had PcAnywhere on our NT server, but we upgraded to W2K server over the weekend. I'm not sure why but PcAnywhere isn't there now, but How do I log into the server now, other than walking down to the computer room and logging in directly.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have a w2k pc. I was told that WinXP has a remote dial in option, but unfortunately I don't have XP.

Thanks,

Tracyw

Drop PcAnywhere and install VNC. It is free and works great. mot98

Configure terminal services. You are given two CAL's free for administration.

Thanks to both of you.
I will try both options and see which one I like better.

Drop all of them, they are all crap
get radmin from
it works well with even dial up, it is the best next to terminal service, terminal service doesn't have high colour.

the only thing has higher colour is Citrix Metaframe XP 16 bit colour.

TRUST ME ON THIS

Draw backs.
1)VNC only allows one connection per session. If your logged on and someone else logs on, it kicks you off.
2)Terminal Services. You have two accounts for admin, but you can't tell if someone else is logged in, so you can have two people working on the same server and not know it.
3)Don't know radmin.
Good points
1)Use tightvnc instead (Can be found doing a google search), which allows multiple users. (I had a gent in Peurto Rico vnc'd into my server, and we vnc'd into another from there helping me out.
2)TS is just like setting in front of the monitor. I use it on a server in another town and it's great. This works great if you don't have multiple users using it.
3)Don't know.

Hope this helps.

Glen,

perhaps you should try RADMIN out, it works on Pentium 1 166Mhz systems with only 64MB of ram,
i find VNC crap out and freeze it when you load it on slow computer, plus your connection too.

Radmin allows to have multiple logon
i use it all the time, VNC and Radmin allows you to burn cd remote properly, where PC anywhere and terminal service doesn't work, Terminal service logon on as different users.
same goes with Citrix Server

Terminal service and Ctirix's rate will allow you to watch movie remotely provided you have high speed both end
where VNC and Radmin can't keep up.
Radmin allows you to adjust the refresh frame rate per second

2)Terminal Services. You have two accounts for admin, but you can't tell if someone else is logged in, so you can have two people working on the same server and not know it.

Sure you can, just go to terminal services administrator and it will show all the current connections. We often have multiple admins working on servers concurrently. Is this a problem?

Jon

one good thing about Terminal Service and Citrix is you can adjust the size of screen ie, if the terminal you are going into has a higher resolution, you can adjust to fit your desktop

where VNC and Radmin will be too big, you need to move it to the left and right, up and down

If you are using this for administering a server then you probably don't need the full feature set of RAdmin or PCAnywhere. I use Terminal Server now. I find it fast enough for what I do (certainly don't watch videos or burn CDs!) Also i installed the TSAC so I can access the servers from any PC with a browser - ie no need to install client software. Also XP comes with its own client (that seems very fast). The downside to terminal server is that I have had problems installing software using it - eg having to reboot when normally a reboot is not required. I now only install SW at the console.

for me, terminal service has it down side, radmin doesn't need to install to have client software, only two file you need

Win xp 's remote doesn't work well, you have to set time to access and it doesn't work the freedom you have

I have VNC loaded on 250 clients. When someone has a problem, I tunnel into there pc, and 9 times out of 10 I can fix it without having to go out and check it there. Glen A. Johnson

The best part about VNC is FREE
where Radmin costs $35USD

You got it! Go with tight vnc though, not the original. Glen A. Johnson

Glen, TightVNC same as VNC, not really fast, still have a stupid dot to chase around
perhaps you should look at radmin

Trust me dude

For the cost, I'll chase a dot. Also, it's not the same as you can share connections instead of having only one. Glen A. Johnson

Radmin can have multiple of connection or just to view
i am in Canada, and i fix my friend's pc in Hong Kong, you tell me

i also did it on a dial up, yes it costs, but it well worth it

Thanks everyone, for you input.

Hungster, I guess it's a draw. Freind and I worked on same server while he was in Puerto Rico and I was in Illinois in the states and the server was in Wyoning in the states. Radmin and VNC must be pretty close to being Identical. I will check into radmin though. Sounds good. (Still don't like the price.) Glen A. Johnson

As far as the original question goes, it may depend on your version of pcAnywhere. Only pcAnywhere 9.2 and above is supported by Windows 2000. Since you upgraded, it mat have seen your version as incompatible and removed it.
