I have a IBM laptop running windows 2000. Last night i disconeccted from the network and put my laptop away (i don't use a docking station). This moring i went to reconnect to the network and i could not. I don't have a link light nor do i have access to the server. User name and password are correct, i have had no problems in the past. Could the card just be bad overnight? The card is built into the laptop and the system folder says that their are no problems. All the other computers have access to the internet and the network.

Thx!

There are only a few things that can go wrong.

The light is basically just a Link light. When the other end is properly connected to a switch or hub, then your light will come on, regardless if your logged in or not.

Here are the things I would try:

- Try another patch cord (the blue cord from your network card to the wall jack). Maybe the cleaners vaccumed near it and hooked it, causing a short...

- Make sure the other end is plugged in! On your jack should be a number (usually). This will correspond to the jack number and port number at the other end your plugged into. Maybe someone unplugged it by mistake or the hub/switch is busted.

- Last possiblity is the jack is broken.. once again, somebody like the cleaners might of hooked it and broken something inside. I suggest you call experts from there on.
