I support an office that is using Macola SQL version 7.6.300c. I have been told by their office staff that Macola requires local admin privileges to operate properly(which is against corporate policy). Can someone confirm if Macola really does require such privileges. If not required, then what permissions where will work for both Macola and the Flex client?

TIA, Dave N.

You don't need to be a local admin to run Macola...see DocID: 17.027.168 on the support web site for a complete explanation of what rights you need to grant.

Here is the body of the document if you're not able to view it:

Description: What rights or permissions are needed on a Progression Client workstation?

<START>

Solution: In order for Progression to function properly you must make sure that the C: \Windows\ Macola7.ini file has full permissions, and not read only. To do this, right click Start and select Explore. Find the Local Disk (C:) and expand it. Expand the Windows folder, highlight and right click the Macola7.ini file. On the General tab verify that the read only check box is not selected. On the Security tab, make sure that the check boxes for Users are checked indicating full control. Click the button for advanced options, and make sure that the check box “Replace permissions entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects” is checked. When done, select ok twice.

Give permissions to the registry keys installed by Progression named: Fujitsu, Macola, and ODBC. Do this by pressing the Start button, choose Run, type Regedit, and select Ok. Expand the folder named Hkey_Local_Machine then expand the folder Software; expand the folder of choice (Fujitsu, Macola, and ODBC). Right click the software choice, select the Permissions and give full control permissions to Users. Select the advanced button below and make sure that the check box “Inherit from parent” is checked.

After Permissions have been set to full control start Progression as normal.

<END>

Also if you are running EBA and want to save views/filters locally they need to be able to write to the c:\documents and settings\application data\gps\external directory on the local machine.

Hopefully this helps.
