I have an old Linksys BEFSR11 2 port [one in and one out] Router. When I install this router between the Computer and the Internet Modem the Internet will not work.

** I have the Internet Modem side plugged into the WAN jack and the Computer into the LAN jack
** There are 6 lights top to bottom 3 for LAN and 3 for WAN - when the router is on and the cables are connected the top 2 lights are on [linklights] and the middle righthand light [act] is flickering.
** there are no internet settings checked on the computer

The same symptoms were exhibited when I tried a BEFSR41 Router [6 ports - an - Uplink and 4 others].

I have never used these before - is there another setting somewhere I am missing. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Ron

It is likely the default IP address of the modem, and that of the Linksys router(s) are the same.

Set the linksys to use a LAN address of 192.168.2.x instead of its default of 192.168.1.x
