I have a solaris 8 client web server w/legato 6.1 that performs a full backup everytime instead of incr. The error message "No full backups of this save set were found in the media database, performing a full backup appears" in the logfile. If I perform the "recover" command on the client I see the files listed which tell me the indexes are ok, but it can't tell me what volumes they are on. I have to other sun boxes running beside this one that work fine. Does anyone have any ideas why the "media database" is not getting updated?

Thanks in advance for any help!

My guess would be that you had renamed this sun box at one time or another without making sure to keep the same client id, as specified in Legato's tech bulletin 121.

To see if this is true, run the following on the backup server:

mminfo -av -ot -r client,clientid | sort | uniq

How many times does the client name appear?

The other explanation is that there is corruption in your media database.

Both scenerios can be proven by simply shutting down NetWorker, renaming /nsr/index, /nsr/mm, and makea backup copy of /nsr/res. Then restart NetWorker, stick in some new tapes, and test backups twice. The first time, it will perform a full backup, but the second test should be incremental.

In either case, resolving this can be tricky, so it's better to open a support call with Legato for resolution.
