Hello group I'm studying for the CCNA and lately when I log onto my home lab and try to configure the e0 interface I get this message:Router2>en
Router2#debug all
This may severely impact network performance. Continue? [confirm]
All possible debugging has been turned on

I tried to erase-startup/reload, then enable ip routing on the interfaces but it still gets the same message. When i configure the s0/s1 interfaces and enter the no shut command everything on those interfaces works. By the way I also enter no shut on the e0 interfaces. HELP.

looks like your e0 or the other end is unplugged.

if that is not true, your controller might be faulty

What kind of router is this? What do you have connected to the ethernet interface?

The routers are 2501's connected with two transceivers and straight thru cables stp cat5.

are the cables connected to a switch?

There are two ways to check your interface, fisrt try issueing the command no keepalive, this should bring the interface to Up and Up. This only checks as far as the software process etc.
The second way to ensure a good check is a cat 5 loopback, pins 1-3 and 2-6 this should also bring the interface up.

If the routers are connected back to back then you need a crossover, also if the router is connected to a switch ensure that the ports on the switch arent disabled

Visit for free Cisco rack access.

As gwildfire just mentioned, you need a crossover ethernet cable for back-to-back connections.

Ok I will try these steps and report back. I really appreciate the advice and time gwildfire/jneiberger/avilov.
