Sometimes my jobs just "stop", they are active, and
apparently executing, but they don't answer more, and a job that finish in 40 minutes, apear like having 36 hours to finish.
if a try to stop it, they say that the job will try to finish safely, but it don't stop, and I have to restart de computer.
After the restar if i run the job they work normaly.

Any idea?

tks.

Try recreating the job. The job may have become corrupt. If this doesn't work then save all your jobs and just reinstall ARCserve. A fresh copy should iron out any bugs or corruption.

Hello ,
I have the same problem on my Nt4.0 running Arcserve.
The job will start running and will stop at 25%
without any warning and no error message..
Don't really know what to do.
Should I reinstall the application(arcserve)???
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank you

When i received this error at first time i try to recreate the job, and I reinstall arcserve, but it does't work..
Someone have another idea?

Disable ARCserve, load the NT drivers for your device and then try the same backup using the windows original NT backup. If you have the same problem then I don't think ARCserve is at fault. Your drive might be stuffed.

When I have trouble stopping a job, if it appears to be backing up a remote server via a client, I'll go to the remote server and stop the client. The job with then stop.

I had a similar problem with ArcServe recently. It turned out to be the (Computer Associates) InoculateIT virus software that was checking each file during bcakup. Backups that used to take 6 minute now took hours. The fix was simply to disable virus checking in Arcserve (Modify Job, Backup, Options). I don't know how that option got enabled in the first place, but I suspect a recent virus signature update that occurred simultaneous with the backup problem.

My drive is working good, the jod isn't remote and the virus check are disabled, but the error presists.

Another idea?

Sorry, I got the posts confused. It is a local job. Do you receive any errors at all in the NT event viewer? Nothing about SCSI errors? How about the ARCserve Activity log, any errors for the job there? How many devices do you have hanging off of the SCSI bus?

Sorry for the all the questions, but it helps troubleshoot the dilemma.

No problem about the questions.
It's a local job.
I don't have SCSI errors in my envent viewer.
The ArcServe log don't have errors.
I have three SCSI devices, the tape and two hard drives. The hard drives are on the same SCSI controller, the tape have his own controller.

Tks for everyone that try to help.

What tape drive is it by the way? Oh and did you try my above suggestion of attempting to backup using NT Backup instead of ARCserve?

g

I try to use NT Backup, but I don't have any blank media to make the tests, all of my medias are formated in ArcServe, and when a try to use this in NT Backup he says that the media is invalid.
It's because NT Backup don't recognize ArcServe format type.

Bloody 'ell, get a tape formatted and whack it in, I've been following this post and it needs sortin' !! :)

It's not virus software is it? May be worth putting the tape engine into debug mode (reg hack on CA site) to see if there is anything uniform that happens before it locks. Maybe a good idea to put the whole thing in debug mode.

Please, Varuna, could you rewrite the message using the formal language?
I'm from Brazil and my english isn't very good.

Hola Deddl,

Sorry My English is not good and I am English.

try the ntbackup option first.

you can get more information from the diffrent services eg. tape, database, and job by putting them into debug mode. There is an article on the CA support site that tells you how to enable this. It is in the registry.

I will post a link later if I have time to look for it.

Adios

I think that the problem was solved,
my DAT Drive just crash, but it was working good, no errors, nothing strange, the only think that is this arcserve stop.
I will replace the drive, and if the error persists, I turn to post here.
Tks. To all.
And sorry to don't see the problem in the drive before, but I can't diveni. Like I say, it don't send any error message.
