If there is anyone out there that could help direct me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

We have Win2k server on a NT 4.0 Domain. We are using WINS,DNS, and have a PDC and BDC.

About 4 times a day, I get an event log error stating

" No Windows NT or Win2K Domain Controller is available for Domain 'X' The folloeing Errors occured. There are currently no Logon Servers Available. " Event ID 5719

This Server is on 2 networks, corporate, and production. The server is part of our corporate doamin, and is seen by the PDC using servermanager.

Thank you for your time

If your Win2K server is on a different subnet you'll need an LMHOSTS entry to connect properly. Look in \winnt\system32\drivers\etc\ there should be a LMHOSTS.SAM just rename it to LMHOSTS and modify it according to your needs.

The other idea is to check and see if the routers between the subnets are passing any broadcasts. Example is the the CIsco where the command IP HELPER-ADDRESS xxx.xxx.xxx will allow 10 common broadcast based protocols to pass. BootP(DHCP),TFTP, DNS, ports 137 and 139 if I remember right which the WINS and PDC/BDCs want to use plus a few others.

Thank you for your sugggestions.

I fixed our problem. We have had some weird experiences with the embedded network card on our Compaq 1850R. We also experience a lot of network collisions during our busy times.

I installed a netelligent adapter, which solved the netlogon messages.

This problem did not happen with our nt40 boxes. Id also be willing to be that it would not happen if our network was configured diferently. There is a plan to do this in the upcoming months.

Dont ya just love blaming the "network".

Could you detail some of the "weird" problems with the Compaq card?
