I've got several machines in my small office that all have XP with sp2. It's a peer to peer network with 3 pcs ranging in age. Two of the newest machines have XP Home and the oldest (an AMD 400) has XP Pro. I never noticed till recently on installing a new video card that I cannot load drivers and that the card doesn't show on the device manager.

I've tried an ATI and an Nvidia card. I spent an hour on the phones with BFG support to no avail. The only thing that has worked is that I have done a fresh install without sp1 or 2 and can load ATI and Nvidia drivers. Sure hate to think I have to spend all those hours setting up a new machine just to install a new display card. Surely I'm not the only one that is experiencing this problem since all three of my machines are having the same problem.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Do you get any error messages when trying to install the drivers?
Have you made sure you have the latest drivers downloaded from the manufacturers website?
Is your computer set to only allow signed drivers?

Start > Right Click My Computer > Select Properties > Hardware Tab > Driver Signing Button > If it is set to Block then only signed drivers can be installed.

When installing the card are you signed in as administrator?

Have you tried the new hardware wizard?

I am logged on as administrator and the "Driver Signing" is set to "Choose". If you mean the Add Device wizard yes I did use it. It found the Nvidia card and installed some generic drivers but still didn't show on the Device Manager's list. I may just have to start over. I just hate to think of the hours and that I'll have to find an SP1 disc cause I'll be hanged if I'l do SP2 again.

Thanks for the reply.
