I seem to be having a problem getting a dial-tone or voice communication on a remote handset (different location from bcm50). I get the config. from S1 and I can make a call and receive a call but I cannot hear any conversation in either direction. I have the bcm on a dmz with all services/ports open.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks, Preston

Signaling works on a different port than audio.
Is this on a private LAN?
How many hops between the IP set and the BCM?
Do the routers support DiffServ?
Is there a firewall anywhere in the link?

Thanks SupportDude,

The set is on a private lan.
11 total hops, 4 ATT and 5 TimeWarner.
At the BCM location I have an older dlink dfl300 in place so I am sure it does not support it. Remote site is a sonicwal tz170.

So ... it sounds like were traversing the Internet here.
Call quality may be poor with that much delay, but it should still work.

Make sure all firewalls are open for the following ports:
7000
28000 thru 28255
51000 thru 51200

If you set up a branch office VPN it will work. Over the internet alone with port forwarding will never be good. I have a site in Chicago, and another in Tampa. Tampa has only 1 IP phone connected with a vpn, and it works great. I suggest good internet on both ends.
