We just bought a banner marquee that comes with a network adapter to allow other workstations to setup displays. However there is no place for a default gateway on the config software. We have many workstations on different Vlans that need access to this. How can a IP route to this marquee be setup on a router so other Vlan's can access it?

Thanks

u may need to do what is known as VLAN trunking.. where u may not necessarily need a router per se, to do inter-VLAN routing..

there are several ways to do this, but the best way for your situation would be to ensure your OS supports inter-VLAN communication protocols such as 802.1Q.. this is an IEEE standard.. cisco uses their proprietory ISL [Inter-Switch Link] protocol.. these protocols basically allow a device that supports these protocols to have information on all VLANs so u don't have to go thru a layer 3 device like a router, for inter-VLAN communication, thereby reducing latency and increasing throughput...

i am not sure about Windows, but i know that the Linux 2.2 and 2.4 kernels do have support for 802.1Q...

search 802.1Q on for more information..

good luck...

I could be wrong, but it shouldn't necessarily require a gateway. If a station accesses the banner marquee from a remote location the packet will get there via the gateway/VLAN interface and the 'banner marquee' will respond sending the communication via the gateway interface that delivered the request.
