No Data Transfer - Link Light On 2

I have set up workstations in a location 125 feet away from our main data switch and although I get a link light on the PC [and the Hub] no data transfer happens when I log in to the network or ping the server. I have achieved data transfer before from this location.

Our system is basically an NT Server 4.0 [on the 4th floor] to a Super Stack switch to a data 'patch' panel to Cat 5 to one outlet jack [on the 6th floor] to a Hub [which was working this morning] to another jack panel [in the wiring closet which lets me send the data lines to 6 different jacks in the rooms]to Cat 5 to the room jacks.

** I have checked all the plug and play cables and they are all 'straight through'.
** bypassed the Hub and gone straight from the 6th floor outlet jack to the jack panel with no difference.
** replaced all the 'plug' and play' cables.
** rebooted, re-logged in, and released and renewed through winipcfg.

I will be taking another longer data cable upstairs this afternoon to test the other 4 jacks in the rooms, one of which I know was working 2 weeks ago however I am thinking I am missing something basic somehow.

I would appreciate any assistance and thank you for it.

being so many different possiblities i would take the workstation itself into the "server room" and cut out alot of cabling hubs/switches ect. then back tract from there ruling out each step.

there is so much "hardware" in the mix right now it would be lucky/educated guesses at this point to get it working.

if you have a cart that you could wheel it around, that would be a great idea. "Jack of all trades. Master of none."

I have come across this problem before...
I have had bad ports on the switch and on the patch panel replace all patch cables and move to a different port on the switch/hub.

Thank you internetech and qwick18 for your suggestions both of which I followed and in doing so found a router cable where it shouldn't have been which led to the problem being solved. I find that just writing the problem out and then getting on with life until a suggestion comes in is really helpful. Then I slow down and patiently deal with things.

Again, thank you ...
