I am using several bound reports in a VB 5 application. For some reason whenever any one of several boolean fields (yes/no in Access 97) is included in the record source of the data control, no data is displayed even though valid records are present in the data control's recordset. Most of the reports work fine. But I have two that just won't show data.

The only time I have had a problem with no records being displayed is where the report links two files, and one of the links doesn't find a matching record, you would only expect the 'driven' files fields to appear blank, but instead both 'driver' and 'driven' files' fields are blanked. Hope this gives you some clues.

The problem seems to be related to the presence of more than four of the thirty or so boolean fields in the recordset on which the report is based. (The table as a whole is 78 fields) The boolean fields are neither primary or foreign keys and have no meaning outside of the table. Remove them and the data displays fine, put even an extra one back in (any one) and no data is displayed.

I eventually worked around the problem by creating a temporary record in another table which has a text field for each boolean field and which places an appropriate string in the text field depending on the value of its boolean counterpart. The report then only extracts the text fields and does not use the booleans, avoiding the problem. Downside is, this is a slow process. I timed the processing of the data for the report and it takes an average of 15 seconds to convert and display the data. Not too good but it works.
