For a while now, my XP-Pro installation has been going a bit weird. I cant see the little green cpu-meter in the systray when I bring up task manager.

The icons arent being hidden because they are inactive (taskbar/start menu props) , and Ive tried SFC, antivirus scan, KLEZ removal tool, killing the task manager task, clearing (and even disabling) my prefetch cache. Pretty much everything. Every now and again it comes back (on a random, per boot basis), but I have no idea why.

Any ideas?

Uh, it is supposed to be there. It will appear inactive in the icon list but that is normal as well.

I suspect a XP bug (at least this is what I tell myself). If you bring it up soon after bootup it will usually appear and sit in the Notification Area. If you wait sometime to load Task Manager then it is a gamble as to if it will show in the Notification Area.

All you can do is make sure the Settings under the Options Tab are correct (and swear at it!).
