Hello all, I need help with this!!
One of the workstations is giving me the following message:

"No connection to the internet is available. To view Internet content that has been saved on your computer, click Work Offline. Click Try Again to attempt to connect"

If I click "Try Again" the browser starts looking for the gateway address and after a while it displays the white page "This page cannot be displayed"
I checked all the setting for the connection and they are ok. All other stations are ok.

This station is running Win98 with IE 5.0

Thanks in advance,

Aldi

Aldi, is this PC on a dial-up or nic?

There are options that you can specifiy to never dial a connection which can cause this. Check again in your internet options Connections tab and make sure that this radio button is not selected.

Are you able to get to other PC's on the network by ping? Are you able to browse the network neighborhood?

Craig

Hi Craig,
Thank you for answering.
I just found out that I cannot ping other computers ei: the gateway - I can browse the network neighbourhood but only see a few computers, I don't see any of the servers including the gateway server but I can map drives to those servers.

If you know how to resolve this problem I would appreciate a lot if you let me know.

P.S: yes the computer is in a LAN - NIC

The only thing I can think of to resolve this, is reinstalling the tcp/ip protocol, please let me know if I may need to do something else.

Thank you very much,

Aldi

That'll be tougher.

Sounds like you are having some kind of resolution problem with your PC not seeing everything else on the network. I don't think reinstalling the TCP/IP protocol will help.

Rather I'd check and see that all of the settings are correct. Are you using the right IP address (if you're not on DHCP) and are your DNS, WINS and LMHOST settings right. Also, some of the other protocols may be missing or misconfigured.

I'd goto another PC on the network with the same OS and see if there is something missing. I'm not a networking expert so I can't give you a really specific answer. It depends on how your network and PC's are configured.

Let me know if anything helped.

Hi Craig,

I fixed the problem....thanks God.... by removing and reinstalling TCP/IP, NetBeui, and all the adapters.

Thank you very much for your enlightings.

Cheers,

Aldi
