No Browser Menu Bar In IE Windows

Whenever I open internet explorer, i am greeted with a blank window. It is filled by my default webpage, which fortunately is google, else i would not be able to do ANYTHING. There is now menu bar at the top of the IE window - no back, forward, favourites, home, etc - how can i revert IE back to its proper, initial settings? Please Help, im not very good at things like this

Go to View--Toolbars and select Standard Buttons (plus anything else you may wish to show).
