Hi all,

I'm exporting an InDesign doc as a PDF. The bookmarks appear in the PDF, but with no text on them - just a long list of identical clickable bookmark icons.

The bookmarks do kind of work - if you click on them, you're taken to the correct place in the doc. They just don't have any text on them to tell them apart.

I'm using InDesign 2.0. The doc contains a table of contents, and I understand the bookmarks should be automatically generated from this. When I export, I have the option of making the resulting PDF compatible with Acrobat 4 or 5. I've tried both these options, with no success.

I'm also making sure that I tick the 'Export links' and 'Export bookmarks' boxes when exporting.

I've also googled this issue with no luck, which seemed surprising, but there you go!

It's driving me nuts - does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks v much in advance for your help...

When you first created the Table of Contents, did you select the Create PDF Bookmarks box (in the Table of Contents dialog box)? That should work...

Thanks Ekwoman - I've checked that out, but there's no 'Create PDF Bookmarks' option in the Table of Contents dialog box. The only options I can see are 'Include Book Documents', 'Run-in' and 'Include Text on Hidden Layers'.

Maybe creating PDF bookmarks just isn't an option in this version of ID? I have version 2.0.

A ha! Yeah... I'm not sure if 2.0 had that function or not. It's quite possible that it doesn't...
