Hello,

I can't seem to figure this one. How do I turn on a blade server in a chassis? If I shutdown the server through the ilo webpage I'm able to use the same procedure to turn the server back on. I pulled out two servers from the rack.

I put them back in and press the power button but the servers don't turn on. They show as empty in the chassis view. I have taken them out many time and placed them back in with no luck. I get an amber light on them to show there is a connection.

I must be missing something to enable these blades to turn on. With blades I have in the bottom rack as soon as I take them out of the chassis and place them back in they turn on.

Bassically, if a blade server is showing as empty in the chassis what do I do to show it in the chassis so I can power it on

Did you put the server back into the same slots they were pulled from?

Yes that is correct. I'm talking to the HP support people. One tech said by default the server should come back on if not the you can hold the power button down for 5 seconds. I went and held the power button down for 5 seconds and the balde server didn't come back up.

A second tech told me the baldes domn't come up automatically you have to power them manually of through the ILO.

I still can see why when I pull out a blade server from my rack it doesn't come back on?

Regardless if it turns on or not, you should see it in the chassis view. Has HP said anything about that?

We have all of ours set to not turn on when inserted, but I know there is a setting somewhere to enable it.

Well I did some testing, in the top chassis when I power down a server it doesn't turn back on. In the chassis below if I put in a blade server it automatically turns on.

I took the blade that automactically turns on in the top chassis and it works. I take a blade that I powered down from the top chassis and put it in the bottom chassis and it still doesn't power on.

Is there a setting on a blade server that will prevent it from power. It seems the blades in the bottom chassis I can move around and turn od\off but the blades in the top chassis don't have this option.

Sorry I don't know that much about it. I'm thinking it's in the profile of the blade, but I don't deal much with the blade servers, so I'm just going from tidbits I've heard around the office.
