No background repeat in pure HTML?

In another forum (I love helping others), I came across a question about having a background that doesn't repeat WITHOUT USING CSS. I knew of nothing in pure HTML, so I gave him/her the style="background-repeat:no-repeat" attribute. He/She is very insistent, however. Can you help me?

there is not Pure HTML for the same, but u could use layers, insert the image where u want it and write the text to a layer and place the layer on top of the image...

Known is handfull, Unknown is worldfull

AS others stated, no such thing in HTML. In fact, one should stop learning some of the antiquated tags in HTML since we are moving toward more dynamic coding (XHTML for example)

CSS is needed as it helps to be cross-browser consistent.
What's so hard about CSS That the person is not understanding? Its only three lines of code to the 'body' in CSS.

The closest thing I can suggest is to have the graphic and a huge transparent area saved as one large .GIF file That way it will look as if there's only one picture on the background. Not the wisest or best idea but just another suggestion.

The background property is deprecated, there's nothing wrong on using CSS.
send the person to
