Hello People

I had a disk error and finally after getting a reboot the Speaker icon on the system tray has a red 'x' and the tool tip says "No Audio Output Device is Installed"

There are two drivers under the "Sound" in the Device Manager and they report as being up to date?
Sound video and game controlers
ATI Unified AVStream Driver
Sigma Tel High Defination Audio CODEC

( A rightclick on them and selecting Update Driver Software)
comes back as up to date

How can I repair this feature.

Thank you

Myrna

What do you see in Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Sound?

Hello smah

In the control panel there is A speaker Icon for the Sound.

A dblclick on it produces the same "No audio devices are installed"

Thanks
Myrna

Have you tried a System Restore to a point before the crash?

This is a XP thread but it might offer a few clues.

No Audio Device

Okey Folks

Listen up cuz I fixed it myself..lol

Go to the Device manager ond "Sound video and game controlers"

Under that were the two Drivers:
Sound video and game controlers
ATI Unified AVStream Driver
Sigma Tel High Defination Audio CODEC

A right-click on the "Sigma Tel High Defination Audio CODEC:"
Allowed a rollback to the last verision installed I guess.

Imediately the sound Icon in the tray removed the red"x" and now it's working fine.

Heads up It was corrupeted via a Microsoft Update for that specific driver.

Later
