Hi guys,

I have a friend who has an old "packard bell i xtreme 6080" whose Windows has crashed. I tried everything but was not able to restore it. They didn't have a restore CD or anything. So I told them to buy a Windows XP Home edition in Amazon. They got one and I installed it no problem. It was a painless installation.

But when I tried to test the audio/sound bit, there is no sound coming out. I have tried to go to the Control Panel and install, upgrade the drivers and all but still no joy. It says "No Audio Device". I downloaded the drivers from packard bell's website but still no luck:

Any ideas guys?

Thanks for any help

is sound activated in bios?
u can get a $5 pci soundcard everywhere.

Does Device Manager list the sound device? Have you got any PCI devices with a ? against them? Sound could be one of those...

1. update the XP to SP3, then install the SoundMax drivers...

or

2. install the:

Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio class driver version 1.0a available for Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows 2000

then install the SoundMax drivers...
