hi,

not exactly a programming question, but my co-worker can't see Java applets on his computer. He's running Windows 98 second edition w/ IE6. All browser options are set to allow applets, but no applets run.

Can you advise me as to where I can see if the neccessary java apps are installed in his OS?

thanks in advance,

sundemon

Does he have a Java JRE plugin (somewhere like C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\...).

Is the applet require a security policy to be modified, or require a certificate to run (ie its doing something not usually allowed to be done by applets like file system access, or initiating new Threads in the JRE) ?

thanks for your quick response.

the applets are nothing special, just run of the mill web stuff.

probably the easiest thing would be to reinstall the necessary files.

could you say what specifically we should download?

sorry about the newbie stuff, I appreciate your help

I've not a lot of applet experience (mainly as I found them a pain in the ar** and a I've found a lot of companies set thier browsers to not accept them), and when I have done anything with them, I've found some times they run easily with no probs, and other times they are finicky.

In THEORY, all you should need is to download the Java JRE plugin at
and you should be away ......
