No Active Image Area Appears - PS CS2

A real mystery! When I open PS CS2 it opens fine. When I open an image, I can see that the image loads by the support menus but the image does not show up in the active image area.

I have tried repair, uninstall, reinstall on a different drive . I have cleaned the subdirectory, etc.

This is a Windows XP Pro with 15Gb disk free and 1Gb RAM.

Older versions of PS work fine. Any suggestions?

Could be your preferences are hosed, see my post on thread229-1028116 to reset them
