Due to good advice I have decided to ignore versions <6 of Navigator - So I am having slight problems with syntax.

1. Does NN6 support document.all[]? - seems not. If so, should I stop using it, I guess so!
2. Has getElementById() totally replaced it?
3. Where can I get definitive syntax standards?

jaredn - please have patience with us!

Thanks - Ben.

no, no document.all support.
yes getElementById has replaced it, although, unfortunately IE4 doesn't support it. adam@aauser.com

Thankyou people, well, guys - you do have boys names. A pity, I like the all array! Seriously though, I downloaded NN6 yesterday, compliance is incredible, no more reloading on resize, everything seems to work, based on a cursory inspection.

I would be interested to get some stats for the amount of browsers, though I think the product is so much better than the previous ones, that switch over will be quick.

So in your guys opinion should I just start ignoring <NN6 from now on? I think I know jaredn's thoughts on this!

Today is great day for web design, later -BB. "Alright whatever man, I'll hook up the hair, but I aint touchin the ring...Cause I'm still a pla--yer"

Take a look at the "Surfer Stats" on the right hand side of the front page of:

They give a good idea of what browsers are currently being used.

Stats derived from:
+500.000.000 hits at
+500.000 different sites
during December, 2000

Copyright TheCounter. (Updated January, 2001.

Well that doesn't even mention NN6? So I still really don't know what to do, I guess I have no choice but to build them all in -BB "Alright whatever man, I'll hook up the hair, but I aint touchin the ring...Cause I'm still a pla--yer"

The stats on are a little old? They have now been updated to show January 2001, and NS 6 still doesn't show up on the list. I'm sure a few people might use it regularly, but it's less than 1%.

If you look at BrowserWatch.com ( they show the same results, that there are more users of NS 3 than there are NS6.

Here's another site, that if you scroll to the bottom you'll see they're stats to show NS6 users at less the 1% as well(.5%). (
I've got nothing against NS in general, I used to use only NS, but they've fallen behind and they're release of NS6 is entirely disappointing. cNet recommends sticking sticking with NS4.7 until NS6.1 is shipped (
However, I would bet that if NS6 improves performance, then we JavaScripters are going to have to support 3 main browser platforms for quite a while (IE, NS6, NS4). I'm all for cross browser scripting, but until NS6 becomes a decent browser and people start using it, I wouldn't worry about it.

what is wrong with the browser, as you do not consider it a decent browser?

also, I hadn't noticed they had been updated :)
secondly, who knows if they count NS6 or just everything 4+ ends up in NS4.X. jared@aauser.com -

Personally - I love NN6 - it kicks..., though it runs VERY slowly on my P166 (no applause, I'm not joking), so slow, it slows developing to a crawl. But as far as compliance and presentation, it is excellent - I guess there must be probs that I have not yet seen.

Good point, DO they count NN6 because when I try to use appVersion - I do not get 6 - I get 5, I think, I can't remember, but definately not 6, perhaps this is the problem, something simple is stopping it featuring in the stats?

Very interesting, all this stat stuff - BB "Alright whatever man, I'll hook up the hair, but I aint touchin the ring...Cause I'm still a pla--yer"
