nmon - swap-in & page-out - connection

I've looked at our nmon stats and noticed an increase in both

I'm not even going to try to explain how I understand the connection, as I'll lose myself and everyone else but needless to say, I have an idea that I can't legibly produce.

Can someone tell me in layman terms the connection between these, and a possible reason for them increasing ?
