Hello,

I want to know if it is possible to create 'read-only' users with NMC.

I've tried to create a user which is not administrator. He can see all NW ressources but cannot modify anything, except for the robotics : he can disable/enable drives, mount tapes...

I've made a attempt of mixing this user with networker 'user groups' but no way...

Is it a way to prevent this 'dangerous' behaviour' ?

Thanks.

Hi,

you should add the user in the correct user group. Add the user as the NMC username and host as NMC server host. That should work. But the default setting is to have *@* in the group Users. That should include everyone so your user should only be able to backup/recover local data and monitor networker.

Have a look at the user group and the access rights there if that is what is causing you the problem.

I think I misunderstood something...

The user will connect itself by the way of a browser (i.e : from anywhere in the galaxy !) not via a host which is a NW client...

I create a MNC user named 'lecteur' (reader in French...) which can manage my NW server (but he is not a NW admin, he cannot modify NW ressources).

I create a NW 'user groups' named 'lecteur' and add in this group a user called lecteur@* with privileges to only 'monitor networker'.

I open a new NMW browser session with 'lecteur' and I can disable a drive tape :-(

So, where I am wrong ? :)

Just tried this with 7.3 SP3 (NMC 3.2 build 510) and it is working as it should, and a clear message that I need "Operate devices and jukeboxes" when selecting disable on the device is displayed.

So either there is a bug in your version or this user gets its access through some other group.

NW733 on AIX and MNC 4.2 Build 510, too...

I had another user group with user *@* which can operate devices and jb... So, my user was of course in this list...

Thanks for your light.
