Hi,

We are getting the following message in the log.nmbd file and I'm not sure how to determine what the problem is or what utilities to use. Can someone help point me in the right direction to figure out what is causing this?

[2005/11/23 09:17:38, 0] nmbd/nmbd_namequery.c:query_name_response(104)
query_name_response: Multiple (2) responses received for a query on subnet 10.0.1.1 for name BERWICK<1d>.
This response was from IP 10.0.1.2, reporting an IP address of 10.0.1.2.

Thanks for any help.

Humm... ok... if that's what it means. I didn't know that's what it meant.

Thank.. now I have something to go look for.

Is there someway to telling which ip's are telling nmbd they are the BERWICK netbios name?

Actually the pc at 10.0.1.2 is named 'ipad' and belongs to the 'BERWICK' workgroup. 'BERWICK' is the name of the workgroup on our lan.

I checked and don't have any pc's named 'BERWICK'.

If I put nmbd into debug mode would it log more useful information that would help me figure this out?

Are you sure you have no more than one WINS server on your lan ?

I'm pretty sure.

I only have one WinNT and it is setup as a WINS server all the other pcs on the lan are win98 or winxp. I checked the SCO unix machine that is running samba and its config doesn't have any of the WINS options set (maybe it should, but it doesn't).

We do have a email/web server that is not a WIN OS , it is at ip 10.0.1.2. This appliance is not configured as a win server, but is setup like I mentioned earlier with the name 'ipad' and workgroup 'BERWICK'. It has a setting to be a preferred master, but I don't think it is since the winnt probabably gets it.

Does it sound like its something with this server at 10.0.1.2. thats causing the problem??

Thanks
LEE
