Dear all,
Need your help.

Brief about the Problem
I'm using Redhat 7.2 on server with NIS Server for authentication with shadows passwords enabled.
Clients also Redhat 7.2

On the client machine I'm not able to login with my NIS user
logins but local login is working fine on the same client machine.
I think PAM is not able to get the shadow password details from NIS server. The log message on the client side says Authentication failure, User unknown.Though the user credentials are vaild.

I have to use Shadow password as it is companies policy.

So I request my friends to please help me out in this problem, as to how to go about solving it. any sort of
feedback will be highly appreciated.

Lastly I want to thank you all for your valuable suggestions
in Advance.

Rgds,
Yousuf

Does RH72 include the authconfig utility? In RH90, authconfig sets everything up on the client side for you, which makes it very easy.

If authconfig is not available, then you'll need to make sure that ypbind is running and that the following text files are set up correctly...

- make sure ypbind is running
- /etc/yp.conf
- /etc/nsswitch.conf
- /etc/pam.d/system-auth
- /etc/sysconfig/network

Type 'nisdomain' and make sure it returns the correct value for your NIS domain. The NIS domain is set in /etc/sysconfig/network.
