I have an issue with NIS/NIS+. A ran a security program and it tells me that NIS/NIS+ was implemented under UDP. Is this a problem that is was implemented under UDP. If it is, how can change it to a different protocol..

Question 2: My linux system is already setup and configured but it's using the boot loader. How can I change it to use grub as the default boot loader..

Question 3: Where can I change the standard firewall security level, via the console...no graphics available for my linux box...

1) It's not a problem.
2) read the documentation for "grub-install"
3) It depends on the distribution of linux

question 1: How can I change it to udp.

question 3. Fedodora 4 is the OS....

1. Looked on google but have yet to see a reference to a TCP based version of NIS. Most the hits on NIS and TCP also refer to NFS since NFS and NIS are frequently used together.
Using TCP mode for NFS only provides a benefit in certain very high traffic modes and then only under certain conditions =). I cannot think of a mode that NIS would benefit with using TCP instead of UDP. It's early yet though. UDP=udp.

3. iptables -L perhaps? Should show most udp traffic blocked under a high firewall setting.

1. Don't know, I'm not sure why your scanner would care if it was implemented using UDP or not.

3. iptables rules are installed in /etc/sysconfig/iptables.conf. There's a rule editor in the installer which creates a RHFIREWALL chain, but I don't know of an editor once it's installed. I personally make my changes live using the iptables commands, then when I'm happy with them I do "service iptables save" to write the changes to the aforementioned file.

Hi Gurus,
We need advise in selection of a server, We are thinking of building a linux file server serving about 100 machines with about 300 users accounts that can backup and have hot plugable scsi raid array etc we need to have an idea on the specs that would be required to serv all the users without too much of overload. our budget for the server is £3500. your advise would be appreciated.
Many Thanks
