NIS map entry >1024

Hello Folks,
I'm running NIS Server on an SGI Octane with 6.5.12 (I know I have to update ....that's not the issue)
The problem is that I have a group entry that goes >1024 characters. AFAIK thats the limit for the Length of Map entries. Is there a workaround other than spliting the group to several other similar, using the same gids ???

For any ideas I'd be thankfull, SGI's knowledge base has no entries concerning that matter or updates for yp, at least none I could find.
